One of the Fruits of the Spirit is Patience. God acts outside of our time frame and is not bound by time, it can seem like he is not acting fast enough. In today’s world we often long for instant gratification, and sometimes we project that mindset onto God. We find ourselves looking for God to operate withim the time frame that we want to operate in. We then start to grow frustration when we see that God is not acting within the time frame we set and we grow frustrated when we feel that God is not acting within accordance to what we think is a timely manner.
For me personally, I have been frustrated with God sometimes. I feel pulled in diffrent directions and I am constantly wondering where to go with regards to my personal career and the calling God has on my life. I have had to realize that God’s promises are fulfilled in his timing not mine or anyone else’s. I have wrestled with uncertainty with regards to my current status, single and interning and in my late 20s. Earlier in the year I wrestled with depression over a lot of my insecurities and frustrations. In healing me from that depression God has shown me that I need to live for his kingdom in the present. Through where I am know God has led me to seek ways to shine his love in my current circumstances. Learning to love and appriciate family and friends is something that has been incredibly refreshing to me. God has shown me that trusting him and living for him in the present is enough everything will workout through him in his perfec timing.
Biblically God has always shown off his timing and also shown how people have trusted him in all their circumstances even when they had to wait a long while for their purpose to come to light, Moses, David and Joseph all had to wait decades for their God given purpose to be revealed. Abraham waited till he was older than 100 years to have a child and he had to wait decades from when he received the promise of a son. Abraham put his faith in God and that allowed him to see God’s faithfulness first hand. In the same way God asks us to trust him knowing that he always honors his promises
In Matt 6:31-34, Jesus says to not worry for God knows our needs and our desires and he will bring them about in his timing and in a way that glorifies him. It is enough to know that as I walk through life and as I climb the mountains of life God will be there with me. He is my sustainer in tis time of waiting and he helps me overcome the mountain of my oewn impatience.
